1.0.Background and Purpose

The National Park Service undertakes planning to ensure that the decisions it makes will carry out, as effectively and efficiently as possible, its mission. In carrying out this mission, NPS managers make difficult decisions about how to conserve significant natural and cultural resources and enhance recreational opportunities. Park planning provides a foundation for decision making. NPS plans represent an organizational commitment to the public and to the Congress of how parks will be managed.

2.0.Authority

This Director’s Order is issued pursuant to 16 U. S. C. 1 through 4 (the National Park Service Organic Act).
